Ok so maybe my bags aren’t packed yet. Maybe my room is littered with an impressive array of items artfully arranged in a manner that makes no sense at all. Maybe my bags are still standing in the corner of the room waiting patiently for the moment the clock strikes hour 11 when all said items will be shoved into them in the nick of time. Maybe, just maybe, there is another kind of packing that needs to be done…
So my name is Naomi Meyer and as I speak (type) there are less than 50 hours until I jump on a plane bound for Brazil with a group of guys and girls from Joshua Generation Church. We are off on a Outreach trip to serve in some of the churches in Sao Paulo, Peruibe and Belo Horizonte. What a great opportunity to serve the people there. I can’t wait…
I mentioned the other packing … (Apart from the toothbrush, passport and sunscreen of course)… There is a spiritual packing that needs to take place too. A getting ready in our hearts for what God has planned for us in sunny Brazil. I see now that from the first moment God encouraged me to join this trip, He has been preparing my heart. I feel an expectation for what He has planned, a love for a people I have never met and a longing to serve in a context that I know very little about. God is earnestly preparing every area of my heart and has shown me much grace in the way He has challenged me, encouraged me and stretched me.
Recently I have been reading Acts, and have been greatly encouraged by the disciples and the early church. They were so single-minded in sharing the love of God with others. They used every opportunity to talk about what God had done in their lives and how he showed His love through salvation. I pray that God would give me the same boldness, yet that I would have a heart of compassion. Conviction, yet a heart of love. I pray that God would use our team to minister to those to whom he has called us. “It’s gonna be wild. It’s gonna be great. Its gonna be full of Him.”
Ok then… Brazil here we come… Well almost. And don’t worry guys, I’ll get the bags packed in time… I promise. Sing it with me people! First stop Sao Paulo!
